
Chief complaint: Female infertility
Western diagnosis: Female infertility & hyperprolactinemia
Medical history: Female 34y. She has had contraceptive pills since she was 18. six months ago, she stopped contraception and started
to try having a bay with her partner. Unfortunately she has not been pregnant so far.
January 2009 she had some tests, which shows that she has hyperprolactinemia (PRL: 1030mu/L) and she has no ovulation.
First visit:
Thinks /worries too much, tend to catch cold, prefers warm drinks, extremely cold hands and feet, even needs to wear thick cotton
socks in the summer, insomnia, has difficulty in falling asleep, severe constipation (once a week), occasional abdominal distention and
acid reflux. Last period was on 30/12/2008. She has history of cystitis.
Her partner also has sperm problems and was treated at the same time.
Pulse exam: wiry and thready.
Tongue exam: pink tongue with red tip, yellow and thick root.
TCM Diagnosis: Yang deficiency, coldness in blood, live qi stagnation.
Point Prescription: guanyuan (RN4), zhongji (RN3), taixi (KI3), taichong (lv3), zusanli (ST36), sanyinjiao (SP6), sishencong (EX)
Acupuncture was given on weekly basis.
Herbal Formula: Yu Lin Zhu & Dang Gui Si Ni Tang & Chai Hu Shu Gan San modified
On the second visit, she said her constipation has been proved (every three days). Add Quan Gua Lou 15g to the original prescription.
On the third visit, she said she felt her hands and feet warmer than before and her constipation has been improved considerably
(once everyday). Keep to the previous prescription.
Herbal medicine was to take daily.
Lifestyle prescription: Avoid cigarette, alcohol, coffee.
Results: Treatment started in mid-January, by the beginning of April (3/4) she is pregnant.
