
Chief complaint: Male infertility
Western diagnosis: Male infertility (poor motility & poor morphology)
Medical history: Male 30y. Failed to get his partner pregnant after 6-month trial.
Seminal fluid analysis (06/10/2008)
Volume: 2.0ml
Concentration: 26×10 PWR 6/ml
Motility: 12% excellent
5% sluggish
19% non-progress
64% immotile
Morphology: 1% normal forms
Generally felt cold, preferred warm drinks, no particular tiredness, normal bowel movement.
His partner has hyperprolactinemia and was treated at the same time.
Pulse exam: deep and thready.
Tongue exam: pink tongue with pale thin coating.
TCM Diagnosis: Spleen and kidney yang deficiency & kidney essence deficiency.
Point Prescription: guanyuan (RN4), zhongji (RN3), qihai (RN6), tianshu (ST25), zusanli (ST36), sanyinjiao (SP6), sishencong (EX)
Acupuncture was given on weekly basis.
Herbal Formula: Ba Zhen Tang & Wu Zi Yan Zong Wan modified
On the second visit, he said he had sight diarrhoea, 3-4 times a day, no abdominal pain. Moved Shu Di from the prescription, add Gan
Jiang and Wu Zhu Yu 5g each.
On the third visit, diarrhoea gone, four limbs felt warmer than before. Keep using the previous prescription.
Herbal medicine was to take daily.
Lifestyle prescription: Avoid cigarette, alcohol.
Results: Treatment started in mid-January, by the beginning of April his partner is pregnant.
