Dr Z Yu is a clinical practitioner with PhD in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), practicing
acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine in Manchester and Sale, Cheshire.
Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine, under the umbrella of TCM, have been practiced
for thousands of years. In Britain, they are not new either. Acupuncture was mentioned in the
first issue of the medical journal 'The Lancet'. Nowadays, acupuncture and Chinese herbal
medicine have become more popular, widely accepted complementary therapies. The long
history TCM itself is evidence for its effectiveness. TCM offers a comprehensive, integrated
and well-tested theory: its application in acupuncture, which is inexpensive, non-invasive, safe
and effective, is surely a key form of treatment for the future.
At the age of 15, Dr Yu was enrolled in Shaonianban, Special Programme for Gifted Youngsters,
studying Chinese herbal medicine and acupuncture. Since then he has been trained for 14
years in two of the most prestigious universities in China. Until he came to practice in
Manchester UK in 2004, he had been an attending physician and rheumatologist at Hiser
Hospital in China for 11 years.
As a qualified, professional practitioner, Dr Yu has a wealth of experience in treating various
health problems. In particular, he has expertise in rheumatological, hepatological,
immunological and gynaecological diseases. Furthermore, he has achieved good result in
treating chronic hepatitis B and chronic hepatitis C with Chinese herbal formulas. His practice
combines TCM with modern approaches. Chinese herbal medicine can be prescribed either
separately or in conjunction with acupuncture treatment.
Dr Yu is recognized as an acupuncturist and TCM practitioner by The NHS Directory of
Complementary and Alternative Practitioners which provides a service to Local GPs and
allows them to refer their patients to locally recognized Complementary and Alternative
Medicine practitioners. He is a fully insured practitioner member of the ATCM (UK) and a
member of the Chinese Association of Acupuncture-Moxibustion. He is also a member of the
Acupuncture Fertility Network (AFN), a professional special interest group for acupuncturists
